PURCHASING ART

What form of payment is accepted?

When purchasing directly from my website, payment is via PayPal, which will allow you to pay using a credit card, even if you don’t have a PayPal account. Alternatively, you can contact me at hello@sarahkellyartist.com for details on how to pay using Venmo, Zelle or check.

I just purchased a painting on your website. What happens next?

  • You should receive a confirmation email from hello@sarahkellyartist.com. Check your spam folder if you did not receive it.

  • If you are in the Denver / Boulder area, I’m happy to deliver the painting directly to you. It will be wired and ready to hang. If you are outside this area, your painting will be carefully packed for shipping. This can take up to a week, depending on the size of the painting and if it will be shipped stretched or rolled.

  • If the work is shipped, I will let you know once your piece is shipped, along with the tracking number so that you can track it online.

  • I generally ship smaller paintings by USPS or FedEx ground and can ship to your home or office.

  • For large paintings, I work with a freight service and we will work with you to coordinate the delivery.

“I LOVE THIS PAINTING BUT … ” QUESTIONS

I love this painting, but I don’t know if it will fit my space.

No problem! Send me an email at hello@sarahkellyartist.com with the painting you love and a photo of your space (along with rough measurements) and I’ll prepare an image of the painting in your space for you to preview. This is a complimentary service.

I love this painting, but I need some time to think about it or talk to a family member about it.

No problem! If you are local, I’m happy to bring one or several pieces to your home for you to see ‘In Situ’. If you are not local, send me an email at hello@sarahkellyartist.com with the painting you love and I’ll place it on reserve for one week. At the end of the week, I’ll follow up with you to see if you are still interested. Putting a painting on reserve means that no one else will be able to buy the painting for one week, giving you the time to be sure you want to move forward.

I love this painting, but I’m trying to figure out how to make it work with my budget.

No problem! I love making my original works available to fit your space and budget. If your budget isn’t as big as the painting you love, you have a couple of options:

  1. You can commission an original work of art to fit your space and budget. The first step is to email me at hello@sarahkellyartist.com, message me through one of my social media channels, or fill out the contact request form below. Commissions start with sizes 18”x24” and 20” square up to 6’x8’ (yes, I can do multiple panels for larger spaces).

  2. You can order a giclee print (see PRINTS section below). We will work together to find something that fits your budget.

COMMISSIONING A PAINTING

The process to order a custom work of art can be intimidating or overwhelming to a lot of people. So I have designed a simple process to go from an idea to final painting, working collaboratively with you along the way.

What is the process for ordering a commission?

Collaborative! We start with a conversation—by email, messaging, phone, or Zoom. We discuss your inspiration, who the piece is for, where it will be hung/installed, what sizes work for the space, and the pricing, based on size. We also talk through the concept for the piece and what inspires you—whether it’s what 3 colors bring you joy, a photo, a feeling, or even another painting in my collection. My work as an artist is to bring your inspiration to life, so it’s ok if you don’t have a clear idea when we meet. We work through that together.

What is the process for creating a commissioned work?

If you decide to move forward to the next step, with a 50% deposit, I will order materials as needed. While waiting for materials to arrive, I will prepare schematic sketches and photos for your review.

Upon schematic approval and when the canvas or wood panel is ready, I begin work on the painting! Before it’s final, I’ll email a photo so you can see the painting and give feedback (what you would like to see more or less of). I’ll make necessary changes and send follow-up photos for final review. Once you are happy with the result, you send the remaining 50% balance due, before shipping/delivery. (If you are in the Denver/Boulder area, I will deliver the painting to you.)

How long does a commissioned painting take to complete?

This depends on the queue of commissions at the time of the order, how large the commissioned piece is, and how many iterations the commissioned artwork requires. While it is on a case-by-case basis, you should normally expect anywhere between 4 - 8 weeks to complete once it’s scheduled for small and medium-sized pieces, and 8 - 12 weeks for works larger than 3’x4’.

CREATING ART

How do you create your texture?

Lots of layers. I usually start with acrylic and then apply oil and oil pastel. My art practice involves an intuitive and intentional curation of color combinations, brushstrokes, and mark-making. My process involves a unique combination of adding (passion) and subtracting (structure) to connect to my visual voice and distill the essence of the piece.

Add, subtract, add, subtract, rinse and repeat.

How do you know when a piece is finished?

Often I do not.

PRINTS

Do you offer prints?

I do offer giclee prints for some of my pieces. Please contact me and we’ll discuss options together based on your needs and your budget. At some point in the future, I will be working with a 3rd party print shop.

What is a “giclee” print?

Giclee (French for "to spray") is a printing process where millions of ink droplets are sprayed onto a high-quality 325 gsm paper. I hand select the type of paper based on its texture, hue, and grain that will best accentuate the integrity and uniqueness of that specific work. It shares the same vivid colors, accuracy, and exceptional resolution that make giclee prints the standard for museums and galleries around the world.
